Allowance
We have decided in our family that allowance is not tied to chores. being a part of our large family requires everyone to work, everyday. Sometimes less is required sometimes more! There are however chores that are harder and can be done for payment. But, here is the run down of how it works at our home. Your allowance is based on your age. We start allowance at age 5. It is given on the first day of the month. Our family is required to pay 10% of that to our church and 10% in a group savings. hey can spend this however they choose. This is the hard part for me. Dillon will waste on candy as will Easton. Ian will by games, videos and songs. Sierra saves. Sydney saves. Anna buys junk from the dollar store. If I was more organized they would each keep track of their spending with a check registry. But, I'm not that organized...yet.
I was proud of Easton last week when he gave 18.00 to a charitable cause at school. It pulled at his heart strings. It was so nice that I decided to match his donation. Kids need to see charitable acts in motion.
If this was helpful let me know. How does your family do allowance?
What is the "group savings" for? Something for the whole family I presume?
ReplyDeleteWe, likewise, will not tie allowance and daily chores together. But the "above and beyond" chores might get some money. We started allowance a couple of years ago and we thought it a waste. Miles was 5/6 and Jonas 4ish. They just wasted it and it killed me. So now we've said we'll start with each kid when they turn 8. So we'll be doing that in a little over a month. We'll see how it goes.
I love Easton's story. How sweet.
Our Group Savings is for something fun we can all do together. Last time it was laser tag and then ice cream. I know it kills me when they waste it. but childhood is short and sweet. Yes, you do have an eight year old soon! Thanks for your comments. I love catching up with you!
DeleteMy kids are too young so I dont have to worry about money yet. We have set up a "fluffy jar" so they earn fluffy's for things they do. Then when jar is full they get an ice cream or slurpie. I needed a good motivation for them and this is working well. I know it will have to be money someday so thanks for sharing your thoughts. What a sweet boy Easton is.
ReplyDeleteCute name for the Jar! I could use a slurpie about now! They just put in a new 7-11 down the road. I can't wait for a slurpie run this Spring. Thanks for you comments.
